OTHER NOTES:
John Rowe is recorded working in Gutter Lane, London, from 1714 to 1727.

  • Condition: Leonard Joel's consultant horologist advises that the movement appears to be in good physical condition but its operation has not been assessed by Leonard Joel and its service history is not known.

To the case, there are various shrinkage splits and small losses to the veneer, particularly around the glazing, most pronounced to the sides; typical scattered knocks to the high points of mouldings, exposed edges, and corners; and wear to the ebonizing polish on edges and corners, with more pronounced wear around the front door lock and to the edge of the rear door where a brass catch has been fitted to keep the door closed in the absence of its lock.

There are a scattered old wormholes around the plinth base and the rear feet to the plinth are replacements.
