Archibald Bertram Webb was a British-born Australian artist renowned for his woodcut prints depicting the Australian landscape. Influenced by Japanese woodcut traditions and the Arts and Crafts movement, Webb combined delicate linework with subtle tonal gradations to evoke atmosphere and solitude. Preferring persimmon wood but experimenting with local hardwoods, he produced works such as 'The Fisherman, Nocturne', capturing the quiet beauty of the natural world. Webb exhibited widely in Australia and Britain, contributing significantly to the development of Australian printmaking.
