Victor Pasmore is widely regarded as one of the pioneers in the development of abstract art, playing a crucial role in reshaping the artistic landscape of the 20th century. Initially trained as a figurative artist, Pasmore's shift toward abstraction in the late 1940s marked a significant turning point in his career. Embracing geometric and organic forms, he sought to express visual harmony through the interplay of shape, line, and colour, departing from the traditional representation of art.

Printmaking became central to Pasmore's exploration of abstraction. He developed a distinctive artistic style, characterized by fluid organic shapes, geometric elements, and a carefully orchestrated sense of balance. 'The Image in Search of Itself' 1977 reflects his ongoing exploration of form, space, and movement, distilling these elements into compositions that feel both structured and spontaneous.
