  • Condition: The paint layer is cracked throughout, fairly evenly, and light stretcher bar pressure marks are also apparent. There is a repair to the end of the one of the wings of the angel at upper left, visible as a disturbance in the paint layer (and under IV light) and with a patch to the reverse. Inspection under UV light reveals a few other smaller areas and points of retouching.

Apart the points noted above, the painted surface (and varnish) presents well, and evenly, but UV light reveals variations, apparently in the varnish rather than in the paint layer itself, and also areas of uneven application of the glaze (including drip marks) not visible at normal viewing.

The frame, which appears to be original to the work, is generally in very good condition with only occasional minor blemishes consistent with age and handling.
